Sweaty & Smelly Feet

Know someone blighted with foot odour or is the issue close to your heart? It is an embarrassing social and health dilemma. Foot odour triggers a real motivation to act.

Here are eight helpful times to tackle smelly feet easily at home.

Eight fast ways to frighten off foot odour

  1. Clean up your life: by eating healthily! Drink lots of water and your life will love you for it. Fatty, take-away, sugar rich processed foods, excessive consumption of wheat or grain-based products and over- processed, fast foods, clog your body. Your organs will groan under the huge demand to deal with the toxicity. So it builds up and eventually leaches out through your pores, creating the unpleasant odours. Your feet are often tucked away in socks ands shoes . T his concentrates the smell so that by the time you take them off., it is extremely strong! If your shoes or socks are made of more synthetic material, which does not breathe, this will reduce the capacity of your feet to breathe and add to the toxic odour.
    Incidentally, sugar is an ideal foot source for the production of yeast in your body. It may make you more prone to fungal infections. (tinea, fungal nail)

  2. Wear clean, cotton socks daily. If you have real issues and cotton socks is not cutting them, then My Family Podiatrist can recommend socks that have proven to be highly successful for many of our clients who have this resistant plight.

  3. Avoid wearing the same shoe two days in a row. Give them time to air out and dry off. If your feet are very sweaty, then after wearing shoes, open them up and place in sunlight to kill the bacteria.

  4. Learn to appreciate Carb Soda: Carb Soda can be sprinkled on your feet after your morning shower, and in your shoes to soak up and neutralize odour. It is a natural product that will be a true friend in this situation. Keep it in a plastic sprinkle container for daily use.

  5. A foot detox using bentonite clay will assist detoxify the skin. This can be done regularly at the clinic when you have routine foot care. A full body detox would be even better, because as the clay draws out toxicity, it will also eliminate odour. This can be achieved by putting 2 large cups of Bentonite Clay in your bath and having a 30 minute soak.

  6. If Bromodosis is a recurrent problem, then soak your feet in Epsom Salts to kill the bacteria. Add 1/2 cup of Epsom Salts to a footbath with warm water and soak for 30 minutes. Alternatively, use apple cider vinegar, which has anti-fungal and anti-viral properties. Use a cup of cider vinegar in a footbath of warm water. Massaging sage or peppermint oil into the skin afterwards gives a refreshing, revitalizing finish that lasts for ages.

  7. Make a natural choice when it comes to buying shoes and socks. Choose shoes that are made of natural materials that breathe. For example choose shoes made of leather, bamboo, canvas rather than plastics and synthetics and wear a fresh, clean pair of cotton, wool or silver socks every day.

  8. If none of the above is working well enough, then it is time to soak your feet in Epsom Salts, dry well, sprinkle Carb soda on your fresh, clean soaks and aired shoes before wearing and head of to see your podiatrist. This is when the ‘big guns’ may need to be brought out. Your podiatrist will explore the issue with you and recommend alternative treatment options where necessary.

Whilst smelly feet are embarrassing For the person socially and personally, there is an upside. It is the body’s way of signalling that something is wrong. The body is a wonderful feedback machine like that. Listening and taking action may address a range of issues that will improve your health and lifestyle.

Causes

  • Feet that are not cleaned and dried well, everyday. Naturally sweaty feet may need washing more frequently, especially after sport.

  • Wearing dirty, smelly socks.

  • Synthetic socks and shoes that don’t breathe, especially if you are prone to sweaty feet.

  • Wearing the same pair of shoes every day. Not airing shoes well to ensure that they are completely dry. Dampness creates foot odour because the trapped moisture creates an ideal warm environment for the growth of bacteria.

  • Hormonal and stress factors (adolescents and pregnancy for example) accentuate issues.

  • High levels of bodily toxicity.

  • Fungal infection may intensify foot odours.

Sweaty Feet

Sweaty feet (hyperhidrosis) is a common issue that causes excessive sweating in the soles of the feet. There are 250,000+ sweat glands in each foot, each generating around 500ml moisture every day. Feet are sweating all the time, which means bacteria is naturally present on our skin all the time. But in some cases, sweat is trapped within our glands, allowing bacteria to multiply. In this case watch for symptoms like:

• Stress or physical activity

• Hereditary

• Toxicity levels in the body

• Odour, redness, itchiness, burning sensation and fungal infestation.

• Inappropriate types of footwear

• Some medics believe the condition relates to the sympathetic nervous system.

Treatments are similar to those for smelly feet, but also include:
