What Is Extra Corporeal Radial Shockwave Therapy?

Extracorporeal Radial shockwave is the transmission, through the skin, of high-intensity sound waves, that interact with the tissues of the body. This interaction stimulates increased blood flow and metabolic activity, which increases the production of collagen, dissolves calcium build up, reduces chronic inflammation and inhibits the substances in the body that cause pain. In other words it may have tremendous benefit for people suffering the debilitation of chronic pain.

  • Shockwave therapy treatment takes less than 15 minutes per site, after which, there is an analgesic effect (pain numbing) that gives welcomed short-term relief for most recipients.

  • Pain relief occurs temporarily but almost immediately. Whilst the effect will wear off, the increased blood flow and other healing factors are going to work in the body now, addressing the injury much more productively and faster than the body would have done without the stimulation.

  • Long term, the shockwave therapy stimulates faster healing and pain reduction.

The benefits of Extras Corporeal Radial Shockwave Therapy include:

  • Effective therapy with quick results, usually within 3-6 sessions on any given site

  • Significant pain relief is usually felt before complete healing has occurred. Full, complete healing will take weeks to months (because new collagen takes 6 weeks to fully mature)

  • In most cases, pain relief is felt at the end of the first and every session, with continual lessening of the overall pain with each application

  • Re-triggering the immune system and repair system to generate additional healing above the body’s natural levels of responsiveness

  • Improvement in range of motion and function of the affected area

  • Minimal side effects
